HHI-EMD Successfully Manufactures First HiMSEN Methanol Engine

20th Jan 2023

On December 15, 2022, HHI-EMD successfully manufactured and completed the FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) of 2 sets of HiMSEN Methanol engines (model : H32DF-LM). The Methanol engines will be delivered to a domestic shipyard in January 2023, and shall be used to generate electricity in a containership. The HiMSEN Methanol engine is the World’s first 4-stroke dual-fuel Methanol engine, which selectively use Methanol and Diesel. It prevents corrosion with special materials and applies diesel cycle combustion with electronically controlled fuel injection (common rail) in methanol mode to enable high-power operation in stable condition.Methanol is easy to store and transport in atmospheric pressure and is an environment-friendly fuel which can reduce 99% SOx, 80% NOx and 95% PM in comparison to Heavy Fuel Oil. Methanol is spotlighted as a carbon-neutral fuel as greenhouse gases can be reduced upto 95% when using Methanol produced from Green Hydrogen. So far, HHI-EMD has received orders for 50 sets of HiMSEN Methanol engines and customer inquiries are continuing to increase, thanks to HHI-EMD’s leading environment-friendly technologies.
